The Saturday side continued its improved form this weekend and replicated some of the good cricket they have played in CCC games into a league fixture to pull off an impressive 92 run victory vs Woking & Horsell, a team that had given us a real hiding one year ago. Having received a call from Symo at 11am asking if I could take over the role as captain due to him taking a knock on a night out, I lost the toss and was asked to bat by the Woking skipper, a decision I can only assume they regretted. Our batting seemed to have all elements of a possible Park Hill batting performance, including a strong opening stand to take us to 69-0 inside 14 overs, to a Park Hill collapse that moved the score to 100-5 before being saved by a determined lower order performance that included a clubbed 42 from KP’s cousin and 28* from batting-all rounder Phil at number 10 while extras continued to bat superbly as it has all season with another well paced innings.
Saturday XI Vs Woking and Horsell
Our defence of the total started well with a run out in the 2nd over, while Webbs and Elliot bowled brilliantly to open the innings taking 4 wickets between them in 12 overs leaving the oppo c.30-5. Wickets were also grabbed by Phil, Symo, KP and Clare and despite a brief fear that a 6 hitting West Indian may prove to be our undoing, we finished off the game and celebrated a well deserved victory.
It was a really enjoyable performance from my perspective as it was nice to see our batting continue to improve as it has done all season, while producing our best bowling performance of the season where we executed a number of plans with great success; a job well done.
