Another old match report from a Saturday Surrey League game between PHCC and Morden…
Park Hill were drawn at home once again, this time with the opposition taking the form of Morden A (our winter net neighbours).
Mark won the toss and elected to take to the field, in somewhat contrasting conditions to last week. Gone were the blue skies and baking sun to be replaced by drizzle on a cloudy and extremely cold day.
Morden openers, Warner and Ballard, somehow survived a hostile and accurate new ball partnership between Sterling (1/20) and Barford (3/16). Both openers eventually fell for 17.
Morden progress was slow, struggling to score off accurate spells from Ghani, Spelling (1/23) and Goldsmith A.(1/19).
The bowler of note however, was the returning Matt Stevens, a constant figure in the football team, yet who last appeared for the cricket team back in 1999. Matt returned extremely respectable figures of 2 overs, 1 maiden, 2 runs and 2 wickets! Although in his own words . . “They were only that good because I bowled so far outside leg, they couldn’t get near them!.”
Morden eventually finished on 93, largely due to 23 n.o. and 13 from youngsters McLaren (J) and Lambert respectively….
Errr… I’ve only just realised that I never finished writing this match report! If anyone actually remembers how this game finished, please let me know!
