Park Hill Cricket Club 2014 Social Report by Clare Webber

This was our first year as Social Secretaries (for Park Hill Cricket Club) and we were determined to exceed the low standards Phil left behind. Firstly, we would like to say thank you to everyone who took the time out to attend these social events, with a core 4 or 5 people who attended most events in particular. These would have been cancelled without you and I would have been left with Major in the Green Man, sipping on a beer if we didn’t have such good commitment.

We started off with a Christmas Curry Night to get everyone together before the New Year. With a few late drop outs, we started to worry about what we had let ourselves in for but in the end we had a great turn out, almost filling up half of the Dhansiri. This was a cheap and cheerful event to get everyone together for the first time since the AGM and it was a real success. We will definitely be repeating it this year and I hope to see more of you there. Remember, partners and girlfriends are all welcome.

Our next Social success came with TopGolf. Although the turnout was not as good as the curry, we still managed to get enough people for a team and had an enjoyable evening. Dave-Symons-GolfSymo (of course) won the golf in his odd choice of attire (as you can see) and we ended up in the poker club thanks to ndy and Major’s recommendation. Aside from the poor choice of drinking venue, this was another success for the Social Secretaries.

The next social event was bowling in Tolworth. Again, we had a lower turnout but still managed to get together around 6 of us which was more than enough for a lane. It started out with Symo racing off into the lead with three strikes in a row. We were starting to wonder if Symo was only part of the club to win all the social events until Dan put up a fight with three strikes and a spare as an attempt to take the lead. However it was another success for Symo and for the Social Secretaries.

Our more recent social event was the Quiz Night. Notably the most stressful but most successful event of the lot. We must say we are very proud of Park Hill’s commitment for this event, we were definitely the most represented club there. This is certainly an event which is going to stay in the diary and there is plenty of room for improvement for next year.

As this was only our first year, we were just testing the water. We are really hoping to expand on this and are looking forward to our second year if you will have us. We have a few new ideas but if there is anything you think would make a good social event, please let us know and we will do our best to organise something.

This just leaves us to say thank you again and we look forward to our second year!

Cheers and up the hill!
