Well, what can I say about this game. The weather was nice and so was the BBQ.
Surrey Titans won the toss and elected to bat which in hindsight was a bad choice. Had they put us to bat first the game would have been over by tea.
Tyler and Lawn opened the bowling with some tight spells making it hard for the batsmen to score. Lawny bowling 6 overs giving away 16 runs was great to watch. He got 1 wicked caught from his own bowling. Of course he did!
Jeavons and Dafydd came on with Jeavons taking 4 wicks and Daf taking 1. Prem, Bawn and Rich all taking a wicket each with Prem bowling out one of their batsman who looked like he was about score big.
It was safe to say that their umpires could not count to 6 relying on the scorer to let them know when it was over. They also did not pad up in advance giving us a bit more time to celebrate the wickets that were taken.
The opposition was 110-7 and we had thought we could keep them under 130. We were mistaken. Their number 10 bat scored 45 runs and batted really well. A lesson that could be learned from the other batsman as they only came out to hit the ball. Final score was 166-8.
After tea Stu and Daf opened the batting with Stu taking a swing and being caught. Then along came myself. Jeavons looking at me nervously wondering if today is the day Lush will get any runs. Sadly I was out for a duck too like Stu. I have to say I was batting as KP as I couldn’t be found on play cricket. Getting out for a duck was not too bad, can’t be giving KP any runs.
Daf got out for 20 and the rest of team out on single figures. We were all out for 47.
Good news was early finish and Daf started the BBQ. Just as we thought cricket was over for the day Oliver (Alex’s son) bowls a beamer at another kids head. It’s glad to see the responsibility of the team as no one left to make sure the kid was ok. The BBQ and beers were much more important.
